From April 2024, the 24/7 Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service has been available via both an 0800 number and NHS 111.
From 1 July 2026, the only way to contact the helpline is by calling NHS 111 and selecting the ‘mental health’ option (option 2).
- The previous 0800 number (0800 028 0077) has now been switched off.
- Callers who dial the 0800 number will hear a recorded message advising them to call 111 and select the mental health option.
- In Derbyshire this is currently option 2 , but the option number may differ in other parts of the country.
NHS England is recommending this single‑number approach nationally. When people dial 111 and select ‘mental health’, they are routed to their local mental health helpline team, who can advise on and signpost to appropriate local support services. Using one number also simplifies call handling and helps the Derbyshire helpline team respond more efficiently.
The following lines are unchanged:
- The professionals’ line for health and social care professionals remains in place and the number is unchanged.
- The BSL/Deaf community access route also continues as usual:
- Call 111 using the SignVideo app or SignVideo website .
- This connects the caller via video link to a BSL interpreter.
- The interpreter will need the name of the nearest town or city to route the call correctly.
The helpline is one of several options for people in Derbyshire with urgent mental health needs. Crisis drop‑in services and safe havens are also available; further information is provided on the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust website
